The answer is yes!
Okay, so I know that when you think of Blindside, you probably don’t think of indie music. In fact up until recently, there really hasn’t been any reason you should (with the exception of indie being a term more and more applied to all of non-mainstream music), as they’ve been a staple of the hardcore/post-hardcore scene for a long time. However, the band has in the last few years been the victim of both of having their label (Elektra) collapsing and then being dropped by the next label (DRT) they signed with. Obviously at this point a bit jaded when it comes to major labels the band decided to go with a very do-it-yourself approach with their new EP, The Black Rose.
They paid for the entire process themselves – recording, production, marketing, etc. And are selling the EP exclusively on their website (with the exception of being in-stores in their native Sweden). This to me is about as indie as it could possibly get. I’ve written a review that’s waiting in the wings, but don’t wait for my opinion. Just go buy the darn thing and contribute to a band that’s really got a heart for making good music.
